Account book kept by Morris County physician, Hezekiah S. Woodruff, who practiced medicine in Mendham (Morris County) until ca.1830. Studied medicine with Ebenezer Blachly (a prominent Mendham doctor) and married his daughter Mary;  member of N.J. Medical Society, 1784. Four of his seven children were physicians.

Documents accounts of daily visits with family names, brief descriptive entries and monetary amounts. He made frequent home visits, attended to women in childbirth and ailing children. He extracted teeth, administered “pills” and medicines, and made an “examination in utero.”

Entries show daily expenses of his own farm: wood cutting, working in garden, “serving as an arbiter;” and “1/2 day trying to make a settlement with Nichols.” Records  purchases for household goods, meats, and sundries.

Names listed are first names only, however, some family names include: Moses Babbit, Nathaniel Cary, Benjamin Chamberlain, Conka, Rachel Cooper, Isaac Cornell, John Crain, William Cummins, Stephen Guerin, Aron Laurance, John Quinby, Pitney, Richard Reed, John Sayers, Thompson, Voorhees, and Woodruff.
