Primarily comprised of printed material, this collection
illuminates Monroe’s involvement with the New Jersey State
Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, the National Association of
Colored Women, Inc., and the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Society.
Monroe was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia, moved to Newark
with her family in 1895 where her family joined the Bethany
Baptist Church and later attended Barringer High School.  Monroe
was a charter member of the Urban League, NAACP and active in a
host of other organizations. The collection contains photographs,
pamphlets, convention brochures, several issues of The Crisis,
some correspondence and certificates of commendation that relate
to the activities of Anna Monroe.  Inventory available.
