Biographical Note

Joseph Bloomfield (1753-1823) was a New Jersey lawyer and Revolutionary War solider. He was governor of New Jersey from 1802
to 1812. During the War of 1812, he was commissioned as a brigadier general, and served until 1815. In the letter, he is recommending
a man named Tench Coxe for a position under Vice President Aaron Burr. Coxe (1755-1824) was best know for his pamphlet titled
An Examination of the Constitution for the United States, which rethought the idea of the Articles of Confederation.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a single letter penned by the New Jersey Governor at the time, Joseph Bloomfield to the Vice President,
Aaron Burr. The reason for writing the letter is because Bloomfield wishes to recommend Tench Coxe for the position of purveyor
of public supplies, which he held until 1912.
