Teacher Workshops Offered this Fall

Consider The New Jersey Historical Society as a site for your next in-service training. NJHS workshops give teachers an introduction to the rich resources available in our Museum and Library, and an opportunity to explore the integration and use of primary sources in the classroom, discover links to curriculum standards, and practice strategies for engaging students in a multicultural, multi-dimensional, and multi-sensory look at New Jersey's past.

The New Jersey Historical Society is offering the following free Teacher Workshops this Fall:

GETTING TO THE SOURCE: Teaching Students to Research with Primary Sources
Join museum educators from NJHS and Edison National Historic Site as they guide you through activities for accessing and getting the most out of objects and documents. Saturday, September 14, 2002 at Edison National Historic Site, West Orange from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or Saturday, November 9, 2002 at The New Jersey Historical Society, Newark from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is required. Please call NJHS at 973-596-8500, ext. 237 to reserve your space. A certificate for 3 credit hours provided at the completion of the morning workshop.

TEACHER OPEN HOUSE
Join museum educators from NJHS and The Newark Museum for a series of free activities for teachers at each site. Enjoy an interactive tour, explore cross-curricular connections, and network with colleagues. Thursday, October 10, 2002 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration required. Please call The Newark Museum at 973-596-6558 to reserve your space. A certificate for 3 credit hours provided at the completion of the evening workshop.

AN ARCHIVES WORKSHOP FOR K-12 TEACHERS
Join archivists, museum educators, and classroom teachers in workshops that will assist you in locating and using primary sources in hand and on-line with your students. Special break-out sessions tailored to elementary/middle and middle/high school levels allows you to find materials and methods that will work for your students. Take away copies of archival material from across the state and lesson plans that you can use in your classroom right away! Monday, October 21, 2002 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at The New Jersey Historical Society, Newark. Advanced registration is required by October 11, 2002 . Please call NJHS at 973-596-8500 to reserve your space. $15 registration fee for materials, lunch and parking.
