John T. Cunningham, a former president and a true New Jerseyman dies at age 96

2012-06-08

On behalf of the Board, Staff and Members:

All of us here at The New Jersey Historical Society were saddened to hear the news of John T. Cunningham’s passing and we wish to express our condolences to his family.

John was a man of warmth and humor as well as passion and commitment. His enthusiasm for all things New Jersey is evident in the multitude of projects and causes with which he became personally involved throughout his life. He championed the importance of the individual in making a difference and this is evidenced by the number of people and organizations throughout the state that have expressed sorrow at his loss.

The New Jersey Historical Society had the benefit of his leadership for the better part of four decades. His contributions as historian, author, editor, trustee and eventual president for six years were and are immeasurable and we will miss his presence and guidance in the history community.

New Jersey is a better place because of John T. Cunningham!
