NJHS offers watercolor workshop for adults

Few places rival the beauty of New Jersey in the fall. Capture your own picturesque autumn scene in a one-day adult watercolor workshop sponsored by The New Jersey Historical Society (NJHS) on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 52 Park Place, Newark from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is required by Thursday, October 7, 2003. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

Participants will spend the morning viewing examples of watercolor postcards from NJHS collections and learning techniques of watercolor, including stretching paper, water use and color mixing. Then, using historic Military Park as a muse, participants will spend the afternoon outside creating their own watercolor postcards.

The workshop will be taught by Shari Abelson, of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, and Maribel Jusino-Ituralde, Community and Family Programs Coordinator at NJHS.

Jusino-Ituralde, who previously taught art classes at The Newark Museum, also teaches art activities to families during Saturday programs and special events at The New Jersey Historical Society. Abelson, who recently served as Adult and Special Needs Coordinator at NJHS, has taught art at Art Partners and the Silvermine School of Art in Connecticut.
