THE COMMODORES TO JOIN THE NJSO FOR THE 10th ANNUAL COMMUNITY PARTNERS CONCERT

2005-05-23

Newark, NJ (May 23, 2005) – The NEW JERSEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA will present its tenth annual Community Partners Concert on Wednesday, June 22nd at NJPAC, beginning at 7:30pm. This year’s concert will feature the internationally famous pop/soul ensemble from the 1970s and 80s – The Commodores, as well as a rising star in the classical music world … violinist Melissa White. Tickets to this one-time performance are $49, $39, $29, $24, and $19, and are currently available through the 50+ Newark-area not-for-profits, including The New Jersey Historical Society.

Begun in 1995, the Community Partners Concert – now an annually-anticipated Newark tradition – features an innovative partnership with a corporation and/or foundation underwriting the services of the Orchestra, thereby permitting all ticket revenue to be funneled to other beneficiaries. The NJSO has consciously chosen to offer this income opportunity to other Newark-based non-profit organizations. Each of these “partners” works with the NJSO to make their constituencies aware of the Symphony and the performance, and sells as many tickets as possible, retaining the resulting income for their own programs. In the nine years this ingenious SRO concert has been presented, over 50 non-profit organizations have shared nearly $600,000 in this “win-win” program.

Please contact Haley Peele at The New Jersey Historical Society, (973) 596-8500 ext. 254 for more information on ticket sales.
