RICHARD CHAPKIS ELECTED TO THE NEW JERSEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

(Newark, NJ) –The New Jersey Historical Society is pleased to announce the election of Richard Chapkis to the board of trustees. Mr. Chapkis is the vice president and General Counsel of Verizon New Jersey. He joined Verizon's legal department in 1999 as a Regulatory Counsel in California and was subsequently appointed to the position of Vice President and General Counsel -- Southeast Region, which he occupied until being appointed to his current position.

Prior to joining Verizon, Mr. Chapkis was associated as a litigator with the law firms of Troop, Steuber, Pasich, Reddick & Tobey; Mannatt, Phelps & Phillips; and Jones Day in Los Angeles. He is admitted to the bar in the State of California, and has served on the faculty of continuing legal education programs and on the Board of Directors of civic and business organizations.
"We enthusiastically welcome Richard Chapkis to the board of trustees," said John Zinn, chair of the board. "His strong background and interest in history combined with his business experience will certainly be an asset to The New Jersey Historical Society.”
A native of California, Mr. Chapkis received his undergraduate degree at Brown University, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1987 and was elected as a member of Sigma Xi. He is a 1991 graduate of the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and a member of the Internal Tax and Business Lawyer.
Mr. Chapkis and his wife reside in Brookside, NJ with their daughter.
Founded in 1845, The New Jersey Historical Society collects, preserves, and interprets the rich and intricate political, social, cultural, and economic history of New Jersey through exhibitions, educational programs, and special events. The historical museum, library, and archives serve more than 20,000 adults and children each year.
The New Jersey Historical Society is located at 52 Park Place (opposite Military Park) in Newark, NJ. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Library hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 12 noon to 5 p.m.
