Volunteer/Docent Opportunities

Would you like to help an amazing non-profit realize its mission of promoting New Jersey history, maybe develop a new skill or use your existing talents?

We have many opportunities for you;

*Lead an architectural walking tour or a guided gallery program

*Work on historic and interesting archives in our research library

*Assist with our education and museum programs

*Help with marketing, design and development

These are just a few examples of the many opportunities available for volunteers/docents at The New Jersey Historical Society. We hope that you will find a place here.

Volunteer/docent placements are made based on the interest and skills of the applicant and the availability of supervision and projects. Please send a letter describing your area of interest and any relevant experience. Applicants will meet or talk with the Volunteer/Intern Coordinator and get a tour of the facility. Hours and schedules are flexible usually occurring during public hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm. We do ask volunteers/docents to contribute at least 6 to8 hours a week.

Please send your letters to the address below.
