Brooks was a student a Phillips Exeter Academy, joined a Masonic
Lodge in Boston and later moved to Philadelphia where he
established his business. The collection includes letters,
accounts and assets of Captain James Emery Brooks, hair lockets
taken from Brooks and his first wife Mary, as well as a
dissertation on acute pneumonia given to Jefferson Medical
College in 1848 by Brooks’ cousin, Horace Ladd, M.D.
