Biographical Note

The Paquale Mustillo family emigrated from Italy in the early twentieth century
and has resided in New Jersey, primarily Newark. Since then, Ralph Mostillo, son of Joseph Mostillo and Antoinette Cipriano, earned his B.A. at Rutgers University, and his M.A. and Ph.D.
at Princeton University. He went on to found the Cancer Association of America in Nutley, New Jersey.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of various legal and private documents, as well as a significant number of photographs (ca. 300)
and twelve compact discs. Pasquale Mustillo documents include birth, marriage, and death certificates, academic diplomas,
forms, and club memberships. The photographs depict members of the Mostillo family in various locations during the years 1919-2002.
Finally, the compact discs contain recorded telephone conversations between Ralph Mostillo and his mother, Antoinette.

The collection is organized into three series: Certificates and Documents, Photographs, and Compact Discs. Within each series,
the materials are arranged in chronological order.

Series Descriptions and Container List

Series 1: Certificates and documents, 1905-2002
Scope and Content:

This series consists of family certificates and documents from 1905-2002, including birth certificates, baptism certificates, marriage certificates, biographies, death certificates and memorares, for several members of the Mostillo family. Also included are Antoinette’s health records. Notably, this folder includes a report considering suspect medications sent from Ralph Mostillo to the Federal Drug Administration’s MedWatch. Legal documents relating to Joseph and Antoinette include retirement benefit forms, various forms of identification, such as driver’s licenses, social security cards, memorares and will papers.

This series contains literature from the Cancer Association of America, which was founded by Ralph Mostillo in Nutley, New Jersey. Religious ephemera, mainly related to the Catholic Church, can also be found in this series. Lastly, this series contains directory monographs and Ralph Mostillo’s membership cards to various organizations including professional, academic, scientific, political, religious and veteran organizations.

Series 2: Photographs, 1919-2002
Scope and Content:

This series is comprised of ca. 300 photographs of the Mostillo family from 1919-2002. The images depict members of the Mostillo family and friends at family gatherings, graduations, weddings, and in school portraits.

A number of the photographs are photo duplications of the originals, and some of the images have been resized. Many of the people featured in the images have been identified by Ralph Mostillo; the name(s) of the individual(s) and the date of the photograph are inscribed in ink on the back.

Scope and Content:

This series contains twelve compact discs from February 2001 to July 2002, that record the telephone conversations of Ralph Mostillo and his mother, Antoinette, during the months before her death.
