Volunteer at The New Jersey Historical Society
Do you have skills that you would like to use in new ways? The New Jersey Historical Society has a place for you! Design a flier for a community family festival; write an attention-grabbing press release about an historic donation; create a program for a group with special needs; or lead an architecture tour of downtown Newark.
Would you like to learn new skills and meet new people? We have many opportunities for you. Build an adult audience and design a gallery program for them; process and organize historic documents for public research; design a membership solicitation; attend lunch time programs, evening panel discussions, walking tours and guided gallery programs.
Or would you like to build on an interest you haven’t yet had the chance to fully explore? There are so many choices! Research New Jersey glassware; design a web component; engage adults in a dialogue about the meaning of objects; create a photograph inventory for public access; or create a database for a marketing program.
These are just a few examples of the many opportunities available for volunteers at The New Jersey Historical Society. We hope that you will find a place here.
Volunteer placements are made based on the interest and skills of the applicant and the availability of supervision and projects. Please send a letter describing your area of interest and any relevant experience. Applicants will meet or talk with the Volunteer/Intern Coordinator and potential supervisors. Hours and schedules are flexible usually occuring during administrative hours — Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm but some Saturday and at-home positions are also possible.
Positions are also available for Interns — high school, college, and graduate. For more information please call or write:
