Urban Oasis: Newark’s Mt. Pleasant Cemetery
(1993 – 1994)

This show explored Newark’s Mt. Pleasant Cemetery — the city’s first “rural cemetery” through paintings, prints, objects, and contemporary photographs, looking at such issues as Victorian notions of mourning, attitudes about burial, and the development of the 19th-century rural cemetery in response to the city’s growth.
