Includes some correspondence of Samuel D. Mott’s father, Henry S.
Mott (181 1-77). A graduate of Lehigh University, Samuel D. Mott
began his professional career as an engineer in Thomas Alva
Edison’s Menlo Park laboratories. In the first decade of the
twentieth century, this resident of Passaic became actively
engaged in the development of “flying machines.”
Although most of his inventions were related to aircraft, Mott
also held patents on phonograph records and equipment,
internal combustion engines, and various electrical
devices.
