Personal and business correspondence of John Reid and others,
surveys, indentures, bonds, bills of indebtedness and wills.
The collection contains genealogical material relating to the
Bartow, Noble, Garrison, Reid and Sands families. Of special
interest is a twelve-page manuscript detailing the “Life of
Nicholas Garrison [1701-1781],” a member of the Moravian
Brethren who helped found Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; a “List
of Things bought and gave my Daughter Mary when she married
William Hartshorne,” signed by John Reid in 1756, and items
concerning the sale of servants and slaves. Much of the
material pertains to land transactions in Freehold, N.J., Perth
Amboy, N.J. and Monmouth County. A detailed inventory is
