Jonas Smith (1773-1846), a resident of Orange, New Jersey, served during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 as a private in Captain William Steele’s Troop of Light Dragoons, 1st Calvary Regiment from Essex County. He married Elizabeth Tucker in 1809.
This volume was the gift of Edgar Williams, date unknown.
This volume is a diary kept by Jonas Smith on the “Pennsylvania Expedition” to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion dating from September 11 to December 31, 1894. His daily entries include the number of miles covered by the troop and the towns in which they stopped for the night.
