Records, 1709-22. 3 items.
Account book, 1712-22, and two deeds relating to the Ramapo
Purchase,
a tract of land which includes the townships of Franklin
and
Hohokus in Bergen County, N.J. and Rockland County, N.Y.
The
account book includes rent and land purchase records ofJohn
Barberie,
Elias Boudinot, Peter Fauconnier, Peter Kerlack,
Abraham
Van Tiel, and others, who purchased this tract from the
Indians in
1709. According to this volume, the owners subse-
quently
sold or leased the property to the ” “Palatines settled
on the
tract of
land between Saddle River and the Hills over Romopuck
and
Mawhawhay.” These records formerly belonged to B.W.
Throckmorton
and are printed in NJHS <1Proceedings 50>1 (October,
1932):375-94.
