Gift of Gene Ryerson, 1966.
The Lafayette Guards were the First Company in the Second Regiment of the New York State Artillery.
This collection was donated by Gene Ryerson in 1966.
This collection consists of the New York State Artillery division, brigade, regimental and company orders, dating from June 26, 1824 to October 11, 1824. The orders were sent by Captain J. Barrell to George G. Ryerson and are kept in chronological order. Many of the orders are in preparation for General Marquis de Lafayette’s (1757-1834) visit to New York City on August 20, 1824 and include those for the Lafayette Guards to appear in full uniform to act as the general’s escort. Later orders in the autumn of 1824 are for regimental inspections.
Processed by James Lewis, June 2001 as part of the “Farm to City” project funded by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
