Summary:

Correspondence; Murphy’s military records as an officer of the 13th New Jersey Volunteers during the Civil War; typescript copies of speeches; drafts of publicity articles for the Murphy Varnish Company; biographical and genealogical information; certificates; letters of condolence written to Murphy’s daughter, Mrs. William B. Kinney, at the time of his death.  Murphy’s correspondence consists primarily of personal letters, and letters congratulating him on his nomination for governor of New Jersey in 1901.  His speeches concern such topics as immigration, penal reform, temperance and prohibition, tariff policy, and “Why the Farmer Boy Should Stay on the Farm.” Included are letters of:
