Summary:

Deeds, indentures, and wills pertaining to the Waldron family of Hunterdon County.  Includes documents signed by William Franklin and William Paterson as governors of New Jersey.

Biographical Note:

William Waldron (1705-1769) was a direct descendant of Resolved Waldron (1616-1690) who immigrated from Amsterdam, Holland as an employee of the Dutch West India Company.  He later became a secretary of Peter Stuyvesant, Dutch mayor of New York in the early 17^th century.

Samuel Waldron (d. 1791) of Amwell Township, Hunterdon County and Francis Waldron (d. ca. 1764) of New York City are the two oldest Waldrons represented in this collection.  Francis Waldron is the link between the Waldrons of Amwell and the historical William Waldron of New York.  Samuel married Catherine ( ), and together they had three sons: Francis, Jerome, and Samuel, and probably a fourth, William.

Francis later married Catalan ( ) and produced two sons: Johanis and Jerome.  In turn, Jerome fathered William (2) and Samuel (2).  Both brothers lived in Amwell, New Jersey.

William (2) married Magdaline ( ), while brother Samuel (2) married Ellen ( ).  Samuel (2) and Ellen produced four children: Jerourd, Elizabeth, Ann, and Mary Emma.  Samuel and Emma Waldron resided in Raritan, New Jersey.  It is not clear whether they actually moved away from the Waldron homestead in Amwell or the county lines simply shifted with the passage of time.

The Waldron family began in New York, but expanded to encompass not only Amwell but later Brunswick, New Jersey too.  William Waldron was the proprietor of the Waldron Machine Shop in 1827.  After generations of family ownership, the machine shop developed into the John Waldron Company and has continued to expand.

Scope and Content Note:

The Waldron Family Papers contain documents pertaining to four generations of the Waldron Family and date from 1764-1892.  This collection contains thirteen documents that have been divided into two separate folders: Legal Documents and Wills & Probates.  Each folder is arranged chronologically.

The Legal Documents folder spans the years 1794-1848 and contains seven documents.  This folder contains deeds, releases, indentures, and a map of land described in an indenture.  The Wills and Probates folder contains six items, all of which are either wills or wills with their attached probate certificates.  The dates on these documents range from 1764-1892.
