Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists of a Newark blacksmith’s account book dating from 1775 to 1795.  Each customer’s account contains entries for the date, product purchased, and price.  The blacksmith’s customers included William Burnet (1730-1791), Rev. Alexander MacWhorter (1734-1807), Samuel Crane (1723-1796), Phineas Baldwin (1726-1803) and Joseph Hedden (1702-1798); and he performed such tasks as making and lengthening hooks and staples, binding wagon wheels, shoeing horses, and cleaning guns.
