Consists of “chattel” mortgage contracts transcribed and recorded by the Commissioner of Deeds of New Jersey in Newark. The contracts list the personal property that was offered as collateral for a loan. Some spines bear the title “Essex County” and volume numbers, suggesting that these were part of a larger series of records from a state or county agency.
