Biographical NoteNothing is known about Sally Ann Barton, the student who used this exercise book. These books, however, were commonly used by students in the nineteenth century for the repetitive practice of penmanship and mathematics. Many of the penmanship exercises are repetitive in nature. The mathematics exercises consist of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the solving of word problems.
