Scope and Content Note

This collection consists primarily of a ledger, with entries from 1842-1892, reporting the business transactions of the carriage shop operated by Mahlon M. Coles. Most transactions involve the repair of carriage parts (wheels, axels, doors, interior cloth). However, Coles also offered services outside the field of carriages. He was also known to fix stoves, tools, and even horseshoes. Included in the ledger are several entries of a personal nature, most having to do with the purchase of foodstuffs and general supplies. Accompanying the ledger are receipts, statements, invoices, and promissory notes for furniture, tools, and labor dated, 1854-1894.
