Historical Note:Walter Troeger worked for the Weston Elecrical Institution Corporation of Newark, New Jersey for over thirty years. He grew up in South Orange and served in World War II as part of the U.S. forces that occupied Germany. He attended Stevens Academy in Hoboken and later attended New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) for his Masters Degree. During his time at the Weston Institute, he was a principal engineer who designed various instruments. The Weston Electrical Institution Corporation was founded by Dr. Edward Weston in 1888. The company developed the standard cell, the first accurate portable voltmeters and ammeters, the first portable light meter, and many other electrical developments. Edward Weston was an early contributor to the founding of the Newark Technical School, which eventually became NJIT. Weston Hall at NJIT is named for him and for his son, Edward Faraday Weston, who was a trustee of the School, at that time known as the Newark College of Engineering. Weston died in Montclair, NJ in 1936, having acquired 334 US patents during his lifetime. Weston is included in the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame. This collection contains various papers, catalogs, instruction books, and business material concerning the Weston Corporation. In addition, this collection contains duplicate copies of the company’s newsletter Weston Engineering Notes, duplicate copies of instrument introductions, product specification, trade catalogs, technical monographs, patent indexes, the Roster of Licensed Professional Engineers, Revised Statues of New Jersey Professional Engineers and a few items de-accessioned to Van Houten Library (NJIT).
