Letters, legal papers, and genealogies of
the Boggs family in New Jersey and New York, and also of the allied Blauvelt,
Kearny, and Lawrence families. Of special interest are the estate papers
of Robert Hunter Morris, Robert Morris (ca. 1745-1815), and Michael Kearny
(1725-1797), which were retained by Robert Boggs (1766-1831), a New Brunswick
lawyer, in the capacity of executor; a volume of naval signals and instructions
“Given under my hand on board this His Majesty’s Ship Neptune at
Sea this 24th day of May 1760 – Charles Saunders … to [Capt. Michael] Kearny,
Commander of His Majesty’s Bomb Terror“; printed and manuscript
music; manuscript copies of New Jersey Loyalist claims, 1798, retained by Robert
Boggs; materials concerning the West New Jersey Society, the Society for
Establishing Useful Manufactures, and the 1844 New Jersey Constitutional
Convention; biographical data collected by Joseph M. Ward concerning those
members of the Kane Masonic Lodge No. 454 of New York City who fought in the
Civil War; papers of the donor, J. Lawrence Boggs, documenting his humanitarian
efforts on behalf of French displaced persons during World War I. Included
are letters and documents of:
