Summary:

Primarily routine legal Letters received by Robert S. Green of Elizabeth, including material on the problems of Civil War soldiers and their dependents, and New Jersey railroads. From 1863-1866 Green served as surrogate of Union County and a member of the Elizabeth City Council.  He was later a Democratic Representative in the Forty-Ninth Congress, 1885-1887, and Governor of New Jersey, 1887-1889. Includes letters from Amzi Dodd (1823-1913), Frederick T. Frelinghuysen, Daniel Haines, John R. McPherson, Cortlandt Parker, and Peter D. Vroom (1791-1873).
