Summary:

Record of cases appearing before John McCain as justice of the peace at Knowlton and Columbia, Warren County, New

Scope and Content Note:

The docket kept by John McCain, a justice of the peace, at the courthouses in Knowlton and Columbia, Warren County, New
Jersey, dates from 1838-1847 and measures 0.01 linear feet.  The court met once every one to two weeks to hear mostly small claims cases.  In December of 1842 it moved from Knowlton to Columbia, Warren County, New Jersey.  The
volume contains entries for the plaintiff, defendant, and the date the debtor paid the overdue amount.  It also includes a name index and notes ordering constables to collect overdue fines.
