Kept by shoemaker Jeremiah Wood in New York City from 1788 to 1795 and by his widow, Rebecca Wood, from 1795 to 1798.
Jeremiah Wood (d. 1795) was a shoemaker and tanner living on Roosevelt Street in New York City with his wife Rebecca. The family also owned property at 41- 43 Ferry Street, which was possibly the location of Wood’s workshop. Jeremiah and Rebecca were members of Christ’s Church.

This volume is a receipt book used by Jeremiah and Rebecca Wood from 1788-1798. Jeremiah Wood used the volume from 1788-1785 to record business receipts for such expenditures as calfskin, cowhides, sealskin, lambskin, and finished shoes. He often made purchases in partnership with Richard Cunningham, Abraham Bloodgood, Girardus Hardenbrook, John Lawrence, or Phillip K. Lawrence, and he bought leather from Michael and Henry Ortley. After Jeremiah’s death, Rebecca Wood used the volume from 1795-1798 to record receipts for pew rent at Christ’s Church.
