Guisbert Sutphen (1720-1796) was a farmer who became a prominent landowner and justice of the peace in Bedminster Township, Somerset County, New Jersey.

The source of this collection is unknown.

Scope and Content Note:

This collection consists of Guisbert Sutphen’s account book dating from 1759-1787.  Each customer’s account contains the date, product bought, and method of payment for each transaction.  Sutphen primarily sold rye, wheat, bran, corn, apples and beef.
