Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the diary of John Force, covering the dates November 11, 1811 to February 6, 1812. Entries were made by Force while on a trip from his home in Caldwell, New Jersey to the Ohio Valley, reaching the vicinity of Cincinnati, Ohio. Most entries indicate the towns he traveled through on a given day, and the mileage he covered. Occasionally, he recorded the weather conditions he experienced while making his journey. His last entry, dated February 6, 1812, reveals that Force was returning home on a very cold day, and had reached Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
