Correspondence,
diaries, financial records, ledgers, cash books photographs, and
other materials concerning the Oliver family of Fergusonville,
New York, and the Jayne family of Orange, N.J., especially of
James Oliver, principal of the Fergusonville Academy of New York
and his wife Emily Jayne Oliver. Contains an autograph
album, 1851-1857, kept by Emily while in Orange, N.J.; a
manuscript volume of sacred songs, 1855; and correspondence sent
and received. The collection includes a number of letters
written in Spanish to Emily Jayne from Cuba, 1875-1880, as well
as the correspondence of George Jayne, E.W. Jayne, Oscar W.
White, John Burroughs and abolitionist Sojourner Truth. A
substantial amount of material, journals, correspondence, and
school notebooks, pertain to Ellen Oliver (b.1873) who studied
Latin and other subjects in Burlingame, Kansas, during the late
1880s and early 1890s. In addition the collection includes
some correspondence of James Oliver; essays, reminiscences, and
various papers by his mother, Sinclair Bucham Oliver (b.1793) as
well as materials generated by Annie Oliver, James Addison
Oliver, George Jayne, Walter A. Jayne and by the Fergusonville
Academy of Davenport, Delaware County, N.Y., 1860-1875. Inventory
