Papers, 1770-1836
Primarily land indentures, bonds, and surveys involving Ebenezer
Stiles (1726-1839) of Hanover Township, Morris County, and his
son Moses Stiles (1771-1854) of Newton Township, Morris County.
Also included are similar materials concerning members of other
Morris County families such as: David Cooper, Joseph Wheeler,
Thomas, Noah and Henry Vail, Moses Prudden, James Wood, Dayton S.
and Cornelia Canfield. Of special interest is a copy of Ebenezer
Stiles’ will drawn up in 1810, an agreement of separation between
Moses Stiles and his wife, Hannah Weaver, a marriage certificate
documenting Moses Stiles second marriage, a bill of sale
recording the purchase of two women slaves by Moses Stiles from
Ebenezer Stiles, Sr. and a deed concerning the establishment of a
schoolhouse. Detailed Inventory.
