Halsted
(1816-84) andJoseph Brokaw. N. Norris Halsted was born

in
Elizabeth in 1816. He became a partner in Halsted, Brokaw and

Company in
1845 and remained until retiring in 1855. Subse-

quently,
he served as an officer of the New Jersey Rubber Com-

pany in
Newark and of a New York cement company. (See MG
