Contains items pertaining to school matters (grades and information about courses), correspondence from the Princeton University Alumni Association and a letter from William B. Hornblower (d. 1914). Hoes graduated from Princeton College in 1871 and continued his studies at the Princeton Theological Seminary from 1872-1875. Upon ordination, Hoes served as a pastor for several different Presbyterian congregations until assuming the position of chaplain in the United States Navy in 1882.
