Biographical NoteLocated at 9028 Palisade Plaza, North Bergen, NJ, the building that would later become Walter’s Inn was built ca. 1895. In 1940, the building was transferred from a relative, Stanley Gorecki, to Walter Szydlowski. Repairs were done and the tavern known as Walter’s Inn was opened. Walter’s Inn (also referred to as Walter’s Tavern) served alcoholic beverages as well as food. Following the death of Walter Szydlowski in 1964, the property was transferred to his wife, Antonia Szydlowski. When she died in 1971, the property was willed to her daughter Irene Carick, (formerly Szydlowski). Following trouble concerning unpaid property taxes in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the property was confiscated by the township of North Bergen and sold to a developer.
