The collection contains documents, chiefly certificates and
commissions pertinent to the career of Governor George F. Fort
(1809-1872). Includes commencement program from University
of Pennsylvania, 1930; commissions for trusteeships and notices
of appointment to the Court of Errors and Appeals. Also includes
George F. Fort’s message to the New Jersey Senate and Assembly
dated January 14, 1852. Fort received his medical degree
from the University of Pennsylvania in 1830, served as New
Jersey’s Democratic governor, 1851-1854. He was appointed
to the state Court of Errors and Appeals nine years after his
governorship. Some documents are signed by Thomas S.
Allison, William M. Force, Whitfield Schaeffer Johnson, William
A. Newell, Charles S. Olden, and Joel Parker.
