The photographs follow the academic career of Charles and Florence Payne, although neither is identified in the images. Many of the class portraits are taken inside the classroom, but some are taken outdoors by the school building. The portraits also feature the African-American classmates of the Paynes. The collection contains, too, a program for the June of 1905 Graduating Exercises of Elliot Street School students including Charles Payne, as well as a button commemorating an event that took place at the school in December of 1906.
