1125. INTERNATIONAL TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION, NEW JERSEY
Records, 1885-1941. 1 1/2 ft.
In addition to containing the minutes of general meetings of the
Newark Typographical Union, No. 103 from 1885-1941 and minutes of
the executive committee of NTU, No. 103, 1909-1920, this
collection houses the minutes of general meetings, 1897-1911, of
the Rahway Typographical Union, No. 235 and a roll and account
book, 1915-1924, of the Dover Typographical Union, No. 433, as
well as descriptive accounts of the Union’s national conventions
in 1898 and 1901 and of the 16th Annual Convention of the New
Jersey State Federation of Labor in 1938. Local No. 103
actively worked to achieve a nine-hour day in the 1890s and
fought fiercely for an eight-hour day in 1905. The union
used strikes and walkouts to achieve their ends. Material
in this collection relates to agreements between the Newark
Typographical Union and the Newark Star Ledger and the Newark
Evening News. Inventory available.
