Abstract: This is an open collection of ciphering/arithmetic books belonging to various students from New Jersey and New York.
Quantity: 0.66 linear ft. (6 folders)

Historical Note

The books are essentially notebooks kept by grade school or intermediate school students. The grades and schools that the students attended are unknown. The books reflect the content of the lessons given to these students which include word problems, addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication and division. There are also some examples of detailed calligraphy and fancy lettering in the books.

Consists of books of Elizabeth Susan Brinckerhoff of New York (1805); Almira Parkhurst (1809); Abram Williams (1814); Amos H. Searfoss (1824); Henry N. Parkhurst of Newark, N.J. (1826); and notes belonging to an unidentified person. This is an open collection.
