Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the receipts in this volume are for the monthly amount he collected. He received a commission of three per cent and the rest of the money was forwarded to his supervisor, first John Lasher and then John Lawrence. Also included is an “Account of Arrivals at the Port of New York commencing with the 22nd day of March 1797.” This account includes entries for the date, ship’s name, surname of person seeking entry, their place of origin, and the amount of money Kearny collected from each person.
