Finding aid written in English. Biographical NoteRev. Caleb Smith (1723-1762), a Presbyterian minister, was born in Brookhaven, Long Island. He attended Yale and graduated in 1743, four years later in 1747 he was licensed by the New York Presbytery. Rev. Smith was ordained the next year. It appears that he spent most of his career as a minister in Newark Mountain, now Orange, New Jersey. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Content NoteThis collection consists chiefly of letters sent to the Rev. Caleb Smith and an enclosure with the donor’s notes. The letters are mostly personal in nature, many of which discuss religious matters, people, or communities. The letters in this collection come from: the Rev. Timothy Allen, Thomas Cooper, S. M. Hamill, Mr. Johnson, Philemon Robbins, Martha Smith, Merrill Smith, William Smith, I. Sproutt, and Thomas Youngs.
