Biographical Note

During the early and middle 19th century, the Stelle Family was influential throughout central New Jersey. Benjamin Stelle, as well as the rest of the family, owned property in the New Brunswick and various other towns in Middlesex County and in the Pennsylvania towns of Crossingville, Cussewago, Westfield, Saegertown, and Middlebook. In addition to Benjamin, other members of the Stelle family mentioned are James, Samuel, Elizabeth and Joseph.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains various materials pertaining to the business transactions of the Stelle family. There are various maps and land surveys which contain information regarding the ownership of various property in the Stelle Family area. There are also court receipts that document a number of business transactions with the Stelle Family. There are also many documents having to do with monetary transactions, records and budget decisions the Stelle Family had made during the early and middle parts of the 19th century. Although the majority of the information mentions the Stelle Family, there are a number of other families whose names reoccur. These families would include McBride, Seager, Ackerman and Randolph. There are a number of other families mentioned, however, the ones stated above appear the most.
